The text below has been copied from Inter Faith Network Circular 17/11 at the request of a number of IFN member bodies. It appears below exactly as it was originally sent on Thursday 11 August.
Dear Inter Faith Network contact,
This last few days has seen rioting in a number of England’s cities. The causes of the riots are the subject of much debate; their impact is not. They have affected profoundly the lives of many communities – and of particular families, including the three in Birmingham who have lost their sons and that of a man shot in Croydon. Others have lost their homes and businesses.
The Co-Chairs and Vice-Chairs of IFN have been following with concern the news and their thoughts and prayers - as no doubt those of all IFN member bodies and trustees and people around the country - are with all working to respond at every level.
Attached with this Circular are just a few of the stories of how faith and inter faith bodies have been responding to the riots. In affected areas faith communities have been playing an important role: in helping protect property, clear up the debris of the riots, assist victims of violence and looting, and – together – standing up for the value of peaceful coexistence.
We would be glad to receive any additional material you can send us on any action which faith communities and inter faith organisations have taken in their neighbourhoods.
Best wishes,
Harriet Crabtree
