Environmental Projects
All faith traditions contain teachings about the importance of care
for the earth and its creatures and inter faith environmental projects
are always popular. In Leicester there has been an inter faith working
camp and a number of local inter faith groups
such as Rugby Inter Faith
Forum and
Nottingham Inter Faith Council and the
Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames Inter-Faith Forum
have taken part in tree planting projects.
Bradford District
Faiths Forum organised 'Faith in the Environment'. This was aimed
'to put something back into our beautiful environment as well as
raise awareness of the scenic beauty on our doorsteps.' More than 20
people from Bradford of different faiths - Christian, Hindu, Muslim
and Sikh – came together, over a shared concern for protecting the
rural environment, to plant trees together in the Yorkshire Dales.
It also highlighted similarities between faiths, rather than their
differences. After planting 100 young trees at Resphill Wood,
Beamsley, the group walked along both banks of the Wharf to Bolton
Abbey, where they visited Bolton Priory Church. The Rev George
Moffat, who formerly served in the parish of St Paul's, Manningham,
gave a presentation on the history of the Church.
